Indoor HDTV Antenna

When combined with an HDTV tuner, the HDTV antenna allows you to receive over-the-air high definition broadcasts.  Indoor HDTV antennas fill this need for those living in apartments or those who are unable to use an outdoor antenna.

Size

For antennas, bigger is better.  This is because a larger surface area increases the antenna's ability to receive the signals that are broadcast.  Choose an indoor HDTV antenna that is as large as your living conditions can accommodate.  This will help you get the best reception for the over-the-air HD broadcasts.

VHF and UHF

VHF stands for Very High Frequency and includes television channels 2 through 13.  UHF stands for Ultra High Frequency and includes the television channels of 14 through 83.  An indoor HDTV antenna that has the capacity to receive both VHF and UHF signals will provide you with channels 2 through 83.  This does not mean all eighty-one of those channels will have a different HD broadcast.  It does mean that if NBC is on channel 3 and FOX is on channel 58, you will be able to receive both.

Amplification

Amplified HDTV antennas use additional components to boost the signal that they receive.  This can be a great addition to indoor antennas which can suffer from signal loss due to electrical appliances and your home's internal wiring.  You can run into problems with overloading the HDTV tuner in some areas when using an amplified antenna.  Check Antenna Web to find out if an amplified antenna would be advised in your area.
